Once upon a time, the moon forgot how to glow. One evening she simply blinked… and went out, like a candle in the wind. The whole sky turned dark as a pocket, and the stars whispered, "Oh no, oh no!" Down in a little house with a crooked chimney, a girl named Maya looked up from her window. "Where did the moon go?" she wondered. Just then, a firefly tapped on the glass and said, "The moon glows because she giggles! But tonight, she forgot how to laugh." So Maya packed a jar full of giggles. She caught her cat's silly sneeze — achoo! She borrowed grandpa's funny snore — honk-shoo! And she scooped up the squeaky song of the garden swing — eee-aww, eee-aww! Then the fireflies lifted Maya high into the sky — up, up, up to the sleepy gray moon. Maya opened her jar and let the giggles out. The moon listened… her cheeks began to twitch… and then she laughed, and laughed, and LAUGHED! And with every giggle, the moon grew brighter, and brighter, until the whole sky danced with silver light. So tonight, if you look closely… you might just see the moon smiling — and winking — just for you. The end.
